One year!

One year ago today, Bryan and I were waiting in an extremely cold board room in Hefei, China. Waiting for the arrival of Carter Ming! The pictures in our mind were months old. Would he be walking? Would he be talking? We had more questions than answers and the anticipation was immense! And then he arrived…

We recently watched the video of his arrival and were moved all over again. Much like watching the video of Cassidy when she was born. While their arrivals were very different, we can’t imagine them not having each other and us not having them. This is what the Shelton Family is meant to be.

Carter seems to have adjusted to life in the United States and life in a family very well! Here are a few of the things he has learned in the past year…
  • French fries come from places like McDonald’s and Wendy’s.
  • Crossing the imaginary line down the middle of the couch with just his little toe will elicit all kinds of reactions from his sister.
  • If he cries (I know it’s fake!) a few minutes after Daddy puts him to bed that Mommy will come upstairs. He also knows that if he asks to be rocked (again), Mommy will oblige!
  • He “can’t” like green vegetables.
  • “Chocit” should be eaten every day.
  • He knows how to make “snowflakes” also known as snow angels.
  • O-H-I-O!
  • How to show his muscles (see picture)
To say we are blessed is an incredible understatement. We try not to take a second of our blessings for granted for we know how truly fortunate we are.
